Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure & Security and working closely with TIER1 and TIER 3 teams, the Systems Administrator performs a TIER2 role that provides guidance and expertise for TIER1 team and aids TIER3 team with more complex tasks and projects. The position is responsible for basic back-end infrastructure duties including monitoring, setup, configuration and troubleshooting of various network, server and security devices and systems. This position will also provide expertise in resolving escalated tickets from over 250 users across two remote sites in Canada and US and two datacenters in Calgary and Vancouver. This is a full-time hybrid position within the Toronto or Vancouver area.

Specific Responsibilities and Daily Tasks:

• Work collaboratively with both TIER1 and TIER3 teams to implement technical solutions that support and improve upon existing hardware infrastructure and IT systems across the enterprise.

• Support mixed Windows 2016+ Server, MS RDS, Linux RHEL, VMware, Active Directory, Azure environments.

• Perform basic infrastructure administration and troubleshooting including next generation firewall management, backups and DR, perform software upgrades and patching, network and application monitoring and reporting.

• Provide Network Operations Centre (NOC) and Security Operations Centre (SOC) Support.

• Provide the second stage of escalation for IT support.

• Update and maintain technical documentation.

• Assist the Director of Infrastructure & Security with reports, documenting, and executing recommendations for improving performance of hardware and software systems, resolving capacity constraints and bottlenecks.

• Help develop, document, communicate, and enforce network and security policies.

• Analyze service incidents and problems, identify risks, provide recommendations, and implement solutions.

• Efficiently enter, track, and maintain work orders in ticketing system.

• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they relate to network, hardware, or software applications.

• Manage Microsoft and third-party vendor support tickets when required.

• Help implement new IT systems.

• Help implement new security features in accordance with current cyber-security frameworks.

• Identify security gaps and provide solutions.

• Serve as a backup for TIER1.

• Available for some evening and weekend work.

Job requirements

Qualifications, Competencies & Requirements:

• University degree in computer science, or equivalent education and experience.

• 5+ years of knowledge and experience with Windows Servers, Windows RDS, Linux RHEL Servers, VMware vSphere/vCentre, Microsoft Azure, Entra, 365, Defender, Next-gen Firewalls.

• Experience with the following would be an asset: Aruba Switches, Oracle DB, Oracle ODA, Nutanix Acropolis, Nimble/HPE SAN, Palo Alto, Dell or Cisco UCS, Tenable, Docker/K8s, CI/CD, DRP, BCP, IRP, Hybrid-cloud (OCI, Azure, AWS), Solarwinds SAM, DPA, Zendesk, ZOHO, Jira, ManageEngine.

• Must have reliable high-speed broadband internet.

• Strong debugging and analyzing skills, takes ownership to ensure project progress.

• Concrete understanding of related technological knowledge, Application Server, and Network Infrastructure.

• Expertise in resolving technical and non-technical obstacles to maintain project progress

• Initiative to learn new technologies/innovations and contribute new ideas to strengthen the solution.

• Ability to review server logs to resolve infrastructure-related issues.

• Ability to multi-task and work under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced environment while meeting internal schedules and deadlines.
