Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant with over 5 years of experience in accounting and finance to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial statements, and supporting various financial reporting activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general ledger management, month-end and year-end close processes, and financial analysis, with a keen ability to improve efficiency in accounting operations. This is a full-time hybrid position working from our Toronto office.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring the accurate recording of financial transactions and account reconciliations.
• Actively participate in the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing process, Sales Commission calculation and Deferred Revenue calculation ensuring that all journal entries, accruals, and financial transactions are processed timely and accurately.
• Analyze financial data and provide insights into budget vs. actual performance, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
• Assist in the preparation of detailed financial reports, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow statements.
• Support the preparation and filing of tax returns, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax regulations. Reconcile and commit US Sales Tax transactions monthly.
• Suggest enhancements to internal controls, streamlining accounting procedures and improving operational efficiency.
• Assist with internal and external audits by preparing supporting documentation and schedules.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial information to management and other stakeholders.
• Reconciliation of accounts, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly.
• Ad hoc reporting, tasks and other projects as needed.
Job requirements
Knowledge & Educational Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, (CPA is preferred).
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in accounting, with a solid understanding of financial reporting, general ledger operations, and month-end closing processes.
• Advanced proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
• Proven ability to work independently and efficiently, managing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in Manufacturing and/or Technology Industry desirable.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
